Founded in 1970 by band leader Maurice White, Earth, Wind and Fire went on to become one of the most successful bands not only of the 70s, but of all time. Throughout the 70s and 80s they were responsible for many of the decade’s hits, including songs such as "Shining Star", "That's the Way of the World”, "September", "Boogie Wonderland”, and "Let's Groove".
The band, currently a 9-piece, are well-known for their complex, high-energy stage shows, their lively horn section and use of the kalimba (African thumb piano), and the vocal contrast, so distinct and unique to the band, that results between Philip Bailey's falsetto and Maurice White's tenor. It’s impossible not to dance upon hearing Earth, Wind, and Fire! Personally invited to perform at the White House by Barack Obama and the first African-American group ever to sell out Madison Garden, the greatest band in the history of funk is coming to the Verizon Center.
